Belshi Lake

Belshi Lake (Liqeni i Belshit) is the small karst lake around which the town of Belsh has grown, on the Dumre plateau in central Albania. The plateau is known for its gypsum karst, where water filling hollows in the rock has formed more than 80 natural lakes, and Belshi is the best known of them.

About Belshi Lake

Covering about 27 hectares and reaching a depth of roughly 13 metres, the lake sits right beside the town, with the houses of Belsh lining its western and northern shores. Its calm water is used for fishing and for irrigating the surrounding farmland, and the shoreline makes an easy place for a quiet walk with views across the water to the rolling countryside.

Belsh lies between Elbasan and Berat, so the lake is often combined with a visit to Berat on a day out in the region.
