Peshtan Village Wineries

The village of Fushë-Peshtan, on the outskirts of Berat, is one of the easiest places in the region to taste Albanian wine where it is made. Family-run wineries here grow their grapes on hillsides that rise toward Mount Tomorr, at around 500 to 700 m above sea level.

About Peshtan Village Wineries

Wineries such as Kantina Pupa work with native grape varieties, including Puls, a white grape from the Berat area, as well as Serina and Debina. Alongside red, white and rosé wines, local producers usually also make their own raki.

A typical visit includes a walk through the vineyards, a look at the cellar and a tasting of several wines, often followed by a meal of traditional Berat dishes in the winery's own restaurant. The atmosphere is rural and relaxed: more family farm than grand château.

Peshtan is a short drive from Berat's old town, so a winery visit fits easily into an afternoon or evening of a Berat stay. The harvest in September and October is the most interesting time to come; at any season it is best to arrange the visit in advance, as these are working family farms. Do not drive after tasting; arrange a transfer instead.
