The island is named after the small church of St Nicholas, patron saint of sailors, which stands on it. It is uninhabited, and its wild shores are lined with pebbly beaches and coves with clear water, far quieter than the busy beaches of the mainland. Deer and many seabirds live on the island, which is a protected natural area.
In summer small boats and water taxis run from the harbour beside Budva Old Town and from Slovenska beach, taking just a few minutes.
Bring water and sun protection, as there are few facilities beyond the main beach, and check the time of the last boat back.
