It was built in the 15th century and remained one of the hardest monasteries to reach: until steps were cut into the rock in the 20th century, monks and visitors were hauled up in nets. It became widely known after appearing in the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only.
Today visitors reach it by walking down a path into a gully and then climbing about 140 steps cut into the rock. At the top are a small church with frescoes, a garden and views over Kalambaka and the Pindus mountains.
Holy Trinity is on the eastern side of the monastery road, between Roussanou and St Stephen's, and the viewpoints nearby are especially good at sunset.
