National Archaeological Museum of North Macedonia

The Archaeological Museum of North Macedonia stands on the bank of the Vardar river in the centre of Skopje. The large white building with its long colonnade and domed towers opened in 2014 as part of the city's Skopje 2014 rebuilding project.

About National Archaeological Museum of North Macedonia

Its collection covers the long history of the region, from prehistoric settlements to the Middle Ages: Neolithic figurines and pottery, finds from ancient Macedonian, Paeonian and Roman sites, jewellery, coins, sculpture and early Christian objects.

The displays are spread over several floors, with reconstructions of tombs and well-lit galleries that make it a good overview before or after visiting archaeological sites such as Stobi or Heraclea Lynkestis.

The museum faces the old Ottoman side of the city: a pedestrian bridge lined with statues links it to Macedonia Square, and the Stone Bridge, the Old Bazaar and Skopje Fortress are all a few minutes away on foot.
