Bovilla Lake And Kruja City Day Tour
Summary
This tour is unique because it combines the natural beauty of Albania with it’s cultural and historic part. The hike to mount Gamti in Bovilla lake is done partially by car. After finishing the small hike, free coffee is served to restore our energies.
A guided tour to Kruja is followed after Bovilla. Regarded as the old capital of Albania, Kruja is one of the most important and historic cities of the nation. As a bonus for nature enthusiast, we will end our tour in Sari Salltik, the peak of Kruja mountain, where Tirana, Kruja, Durres and the Adriatic sea will be in the palm of our hands…
Itinerary & Details
Lake Bovilla
- You will experience one of the most fascinating views in Albania. The turquois waters of the lake combined with the lush of greenery from the steep hill created a breathtaking view.
- Unlike other tours, we drive up the mountain with a car until the road comes to an end. Following a 15 minutes hike, we reach the top of mount Gamti.
- Having absorbed the breathtaking views from the mountain’s apex, we descend to a charming mountainside coffee spot. Here, we’ll pause to restore our energy with a coffee before resuming our journey towards Kruja
Kruja Bazaar
- Our first stop in Kruja city will be in it’s 500 years old bazaar. The Ottoman-style bazaar stretches all the way from middle of Krujë to the Krujë Castle.
- It consists of a single cobblestone street along which all sorts of vendors sell their goods from wooden stalls.
Kruja Castle
- The bazaar of Kruja will lead us into the Castle of Kruja. The walls of the castle hold the history of 1500 years of war and peace. Starting a walking tour inside the castle, we will visit several spots like:
The Scanderbeg’s tree, -The secret tunnel of the castle , -Old residences of the castle, -Mosque of Sultan Mehmet, -The watch tower of the castle, -The top of the castle and many more….
Sari Salltik
- Before this tour comes to an end, we will drive up the mountain of Kruja to the very top, where the Sari Salltik cave is found. The cave serves as a religious place for practicing Bektashi religion and it has an ultimate view, seeing Tirana, Kruja, Durres and Adriatic sea all together.

We had an 8 hrs trip with Nolan who had a lot of knowledge about Albanian’s history and was a really good storyteller.
We can really recommend the trip – also a nice time of the year to travel around.

Really nice and educative trip with great guide
The trip was really amazing!
Even though we had a car we wouldn’t be able to fit trip to both places within one day since it was not fit for offroad.
Trip with Nolan was not only really efficient but also educative since Nolan was really friendly and could answer our questions regarding culture and history of both places we visited. His english was also really good.
Trip was also nicely paced, we didn’t have to rush anywhere but we still managed to finish it nicely so we had also spare time when we returned back to Tirana
I can only recommend, both lake Boville and Kruje were beautiful and with this bundle you can see both in one day.

Great tour to Bovilla Lake and Kruje
Had a fabulous tour with Nolan. Firstly went to Bovilla Lake followed by Kruje old bazaar and Castle. Very good driver and very informative. Adapted the tour to our needs and gave recommendations for restaurants and what to do in Tirana.

First stop Bovilla lake- absolutely gorgeous views. For the brave ones ,you can go to a viewing platform for more great views. Then continued to the Old bazaar of Kruja & Kruja castle.

Perfect perfect perfect
Fantastic day! On our last day we booked this tour since is close by and the tour operator was so kind to drop us off directly at the airport which is 30 minutes from Kruja . This tour was amazing, we had so much fun seeing the lake and the castle of Kruja. If you have a late flight (after 6) this tour would be perfect. Enjoy!!!!!
A relaxing day!
The road is not accessible via public transportation and for those who are not comfortable with driving in a bad road I would advise to find a driver. But in the end of the road a wonderful place awaits. You wouldn’t expect to find a random coffee shop in the top of the mountain but in Albania everything is possible XD. We enjoyed a coffee with an amazing view, climbed for about 10 minutes (a portion of the climb is rocky but safe and the rest with stairs, pretty safe). I would describe the energy and feeling that you get on the top as peace. Sitting on a rock looking at nature. Don’t miss Bovila Lake!
P.S Kruja was a wonderful place to visit also. Good combo!
The other side of Tirana and Kruja
I had a great time exploring Tirana and Kruja. If you prefer hiking, nature, snow, mountains, low-key places and other outdoor activities, I highly recommend visiting Lake Bovilla, the Old bazaar of Kruja and Sarisalltik. It’s worth the trip.

Just Amazing
Very nice experience. We did some rock climbing just for fun. Very good view. Also Kruja City was a historic gem. A very nice itinerary combining both a nature excursion and a cultural one. Totally worth it
