Voskopoja

Voskopoja is a mountain village west of Korçë, once a major trading town, and these articles cover its painted churches and the surrounding highlands. In the eighteenth century it was one of the largest towns in the Balkans; today a handful of its frescoed churches survive among quiet woods and meadows. Our main guide visits Voskopoja and nearby Vithkuqi and explains their history. Two seasonal articles, one on autumn experiences in Albania and one on spring, suggest the best times to see the area, when the hills are in colour or in flower.
