Bovilla Lake, Albania

Bovilla Reservoir

Bovilla Reservoir, often called Bovilla Lake, lies about 14 km northeast of Tirana within Dajti National Park. Formed by a dam on the Tërkuzë River and filled in 1998, it covers around 4.6 square kilometres and provides most of Tirana’s drinking water.

About Bovilla Reservoir

The lake’s striking blue-green water winds between steep, rocky mountainsides, making it one of the most photographed landscapes near the capital. The best views are from the surrounding heights, especially Gamti Mountain, whose short but steep trail and metal stairway lead to a viewing platform high above the water.

Visitors come for hiking and photography, and the cliffs around the dam also attract climbers. As the reservoir is a protected water source, swimming is forbidden, and the water level can rise and fall by several metres over the year.
