Stradun

The Stradun, also called Placa, is the main street of Dubrovnik’s old town. About 300 metres long, it runs in a straight line from the Pile Gate to the clock tower and Luža Square, dividing the walled city in two.

About Stradun

Its pale limestone paving, polished smooth by centuries of footsteps, shines after rain and in the evening light. The uniform stone houses along both sides were rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1667, giving the street its harmonious look.

At its western end stands Onofrio’s Fountain, and along its length side streets climb steeply towards the city walls. Shops, cafés and churches line the way, making the Stradun the city’s main promenade.

Walking the Stradun from gate to clock tower is the classic first step into Dubrovnik and the best way to get your bearings in the old town.
