Its sheer walls rise more than 100 metres above the river, with caves and narrow passages along the way. At the canyon’s entrance, the elegant single-arched Kadiut Bridge, an Ottoman stone bridge from the 18th century, spans the river and is still used today.
Right beside the bridge are the Benja thermal baths, natural pools of warm mineral water where visitors relax after a hike. From here, adventurous travellers can explore the canyon on foot, wading upstream through the river between towering rock walls. Water levels vary with the season, so summer and early autumn are usually the best time, and proper footwear is essential. Përmet is also a popular base for rafting on the nearby Vjosa river.
Bathing in warm springs beneath an Ottoman bridge before heading into a wild canyon makes Langarica one of southern Albania’s most memorable experiences.
