Drino Valley

The Drino Valley runs through southern Albania below Gjirokastër, and these articles are guides to its stone town, castles and ancient sites. The valley floor is farmland, with villages, churches and ruins on the slopes on both sides. Our guides cover Gjirokastra, the stone city above the valley, and its top attractions. Others visit Antigonea, a Hellenistic city founded by King Pyrrhus and named after his wife, and Libohova and Tepelena, two castles linked to Ali Pasha, the Ottoman governor who ruled much of the south.
