The street is named after Prince Mihailo Obrenović and is lined with elegant buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a mix of styles that reflects Belgrade’s growth into a European capital. The whole area is protected as a historic urban ensemble.
Today it is full of shops, bookstores, cafés and street performers, and it stays busy from morning until late in the evening.
A stroll along Knez Mihailova leads naturally to Kalemegdan, where the view over the meeting of the Sava and the Danube rewards the walk.
