The castle is world-famous as “Dracula’s Castle”, but the link is mostly a tourism legend: Vlad the Impaler never lived here, and Bram Stoker’s novel does not mention it. Today it is a museum, where narrow stairways and courtyards lead to rooms furnished with Queen Marie’s furniture and art collections. At the foot of the hill, a small open-air museum shows traditional village buildings.

Bran Castle
Perched on a rocky outcrop near Brașov, Bran Castle was built by the Saxons of Brașov after King Louis I of Hungary granted them the right to do so in 1377. It guarded the mountain pass between Transylvania and Wallachia and served as a customs post. After 1920 it became a royal residence and a favourite retreat of Queen Marie of Romania.
