From the pass the southern side drops steeply to the Ionian Sea, more than 1,000 metres below, opening one of the most spectacular panoramas in Albania: the whole Riviera coastline, with nearby islands visible on clear days. Nearby is Caesar’s Pass, named after Julius Caesar, who marched through the area in pursuit of Pompey.
Along the road, restaurants, wooden chalets and stalls selling local honey and mountain tea invite a stop, and in summer the pass is a popular launch point for paragliding flights down to the coast.
