Archaeological Museum of Durrës

The Archaeological Museum of Durrës stands on the seafront near the city’s old walls and is considered the largest archaeological museum in Albania. It tells the story of Epidamnos–Dyrrachium, the ancient port founded by Greek colonists that grew into one of the main cities of the Roman Adriatic.

About Archaeological Museum of Durrës

The collection covers Greek, Hellenistic and Roman times: statues and portrait heads, funerary stelae with inscriptions, pottery, coins, oil lamps and jewellery found in and around the city, along with mosaics and architectural fragments.

Many objects relate to everyday life in the ancient port, from trade and religion to burial customs, which makes the museum a good companion to a walk around the Roman amphitheatre and the Venetian tower nearby.

For anyone curious about the long history beneath Durrës, the museum puts the city’s visible ruins into context in a single, compact visit.
