It was built in the second half of the 19th century, in the late Ottoman period, when Prizren was one of the most important trading towns of the region. The stone church has two domes and a large covered porch along its side.
The cathedral was badly damaged during the unrest of March 2004 and has since been restored. It remains a reminder of the many communities that have shared the town: within a few minutes' walk you will also find the Sinan Pasha Mosque and the Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour.
The church is in the heart of the old town, near the Stone Bridge and the bazaar, so it fits easily into a walk before climbing up to Prizren Fortress.
