Komani Lake

Komani Lake is a long, narrow reservoir on the Drin River in northern Albania, created between 1979 and 1988 by the hydroelectric dam at the village of Koman. Winding for about 34 km through the mountains, and fed also by the Shala and Valbona rivers, it is often compared to a fjord for its deep gorges and sheer rock walls.

About Komani Lake

The classic way to see it is aboard the Lake Koman Ferry, which sails between Koman and Fierzë in about two and a half hours. Along the way, forested slopes plunge straight into emerald water, the gorge narrows to barely 50 metres in places, and small boats drop off villagers at homes reachable only by water.

The trip is also a scenic link towards Valbona and the Albanian Alps, and many visitors combine it with a boat ride up the Shala River.
