Mesi Bridge

Mesi Bridge (Ura e Mesit) spans the Kir River at the village of Mes, about 5 km northeast of Shkodër. Built around 1768–1770 under the Bushati pashas who ruled Shkodër at the time, it carried an important route linking the city with the hinterland, and it is one of the finest Ottoman-era bridges in Albania.

About Mesi Bridge

The stone bridge stretches 108 metres on 13 arches, with a large central arch flanked by smaller ones and a narrow deck about 3.4 metres wide. Its graceful humped profile against the clear river and the mountains behind makes it a favourite subject for photographers.

Visitors can walk across the old bridge and down to the riverbanks for the best view of its arches. Floods have damaged some of the arches over time, adding to the sense of a fragile survivor from another age.
