Built in the 14th century and raised in the 16th, the tower was the seat of the town council for almost three centuries. Its famous clock has moving wooden figures: on the side facing the lower town, seven figures represent the days of the week and change at midnight; on the side facing the citadel stand figures of Peace, Justice and Law, with angels marking day and night. The four turrets were a sign that the town had the right to judge and execute.
Today the tower houses the History Museum, and its upper gallery offers the best view over the roofs of the citadel and the surrounding hills.
Climb up shortly before the hour to watch the figures move.
