Inside, more than 170 rooms are richly finished with carved wood, stained glass and fine collections. Highlights include the Hall of Honour and the armouries, which display part of a collection of over 4,000 weapons and pieces of armour. The castle has been a museum since 1953, and the nearby Pelișor Castle and Foișor Hunting Lodge belong to the same royal estate.

Peles Castle
Set in a forested valley of the Carpathians above Sinaia, Peleș Castle was built as the summer residence of King Carol I, Romania’s first king. Construction began in 1873 and the castle was inaugurated in 1883, though additions continued until 1914. Its Neo-Renaissance design, with Gothic Revival touches and a tall central tower, made it one of the most admired royal residences of its time. It is also often cited as the first castle fully powered by locally produced electricity.
