It was built in 1912–1913 at the initiative of King Carol I, who wanted the mountain resort to have a casino in the style of those in western Europe. The design was by the Romanian architect Petre Antonescu.
Today the building no longer works as a casino but serves as a conference and events centre, hosting exhibitions, concerts and international meetings. Its grand facade and the surrounding Dimitrie Ghica Park are a pleasant stop on a stroll through town. The facade, with its tall windows and decorative details, faces well-kept lawns and flower beds.
The casino is a short walk from Sinaia's main street and from the road up to Sinaia Monastery and Peleș Castle, so it fits easily into a day in the resort.
