About Pelișor Castle

It was built between 1899 and 1903 for the heir to the throne, the future King Ferdinand, and his wife Queen Marie. The Czech architect Karel Liman designed it in a picturesque half-timbered style, matching the look of its larger neighbour. Smaller and more intimate than Peleș, it was conceived as a family home rather than a state residence.

The interiors reflect Queen Marie's personal taste, with Art Nouveau furniture, wood panelling and decorative details. The Golden Room, decorated with gilded thistle motifs, is among the highlights. Queen Marie spent much of her time here, and many rooms keep her furnishings and personal belongings.

Pelișor is a few minutes' walk uphill through the park from Peleș Castle, so the two are usually visited together, with the forested slopes of the Bucegi Mountains as a backdrop.
