Prešeren Square

Prešeren Square is the central square of Ljubljana and the meeting point of the old town. It is named after France Prešeren, Slovenia’s national poet, whose bronze statue, with a muse above him, has stood here since 1905.

About Prešeren Square

The square is dominated by the pink façade of the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, one of the city’s best-known landmarks. In front of it, the Triple Bridge designed by the architect Jože Plečnik crosses the Ljubljanica river into the old town.

Elegant Secession and Baroque buildings frame the square, and cafés spill out onto the riverbanks nearby. Street musicians, markets and festivals keep it lively throughout the year.

Almost every walk through Ljubljana passes through Prešeren Square, which makes it the natural starting point for exploring the castle hill, the riverside and the central market.
