Triple Bridge

The Triple Bridge (Tromostovje) crosses the Ljubljanica river and links Prešeren Square with Ljubljana’s medieval old town. A bridge has stood here since at least 1280; in 1842 it was replaced by a two-arched stone bridge designed by Giovanni Picco.

About Triple Bridge

As traffic grew, the architect Jože Plečnik added two footbridges on either side, built in 1931–32, turning a single crossing into an elegant trio with balustrades and lamps. In 2021 the bridge was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of Plečnik’s works in Ljubljana, which shaped much of the city’s character.

All three bridges have been pedestrian-only since 2007, and today they are a natural meeting point in the city centre. From here there are fine views along the river toward the castle hill, and the pink Franciscan Church of the Annunciation stands just across the square.
