About Butchers' Bridge

It takes its name from the butchers' stalls that once stood here, and it completes an idea for a bridge at this spot that had been part of architect Jože Plečnik's plans for the riverbank in the 20th century. The deck has narrow glass strips, so you can see the river flowing below your feet.

The bridge is decorated with bronze sculptures by Jakov Brdar, drawn from mythology and the Bible, including Prometheus and Adam and Eve. Its steel cables are also covered with love padlocks left by couples.

Butchers' Bridge links the market and Plečnik's colonnade with the cafés of the Petkovšek embankment, between the Triple Bridge and the Dragon Bridge, so you will likely cross it on any walk along the river.
